Project Description
With no site-specific ground investigation report available at tender stage, ground conditions were assessed using publicly available geological data. The proposed foundation solution was developed to provide a robust and adaptable approach, with anti-heave precautions considered as part of the design strategy.
Steel Cased Driven piling was selected due to its suitability for sites close to existing structures, offering low vibration levels and controlled installation. The system allowed for efficient installation while minimising disturbance to the surrounding area.
The reinforced concrete raft was designed to distribute loads effectively across the pile network, creating a structurally integrated foundation system.

About the Project
Capital Piling was appointed to deliver a piled foundation solution for a residential development at Little Heath, Gamlingay, Bedfordshire. The project comprised the installation of 9 No. Steel Cased Driven (SCD) piles and the construction of a 40m² reinforced concrete slab, designed to provide stable support in variable ground conditions.
The works included full engineering design for both the piling system and the reinforced concrete raft, ensuring compliance with structural requirements and Building Control standards.
Project Summary
This project involved the delivery of a fully designed piled foundation package, including the installation of 220mm diameter Steel Cased Driven piles to an average depth of approximately 6 metres, followed by the construction of a 250mm thick reinforced concrete raft slab. From initial assessment through to installation, Capital Piling provided a coordinated engineering and construction solution, ensuring reliable load performance and programme certainty for the client’s residential development.
