There is no single standard depth. It is entirely determined by your specific soil profile and the structural load requirements. For typical residential extensions, piles often range between 6 and 12 metres deep. However, for larger commercial projects or sites with deep layers of weak soil, piles may need to exceed 20 metres. Our engineers use ground investigation data to find the depth needed to reach "competent strata" (stable ground). This ensures your foundation achieves zero settlement.
Piling works by bypassing weak, unstable surface soil. It then transfers the weight of a building to stronger ground deeper underground. This is achieved by installing vertical columns. We install these columns by driving steel/concrete piles or boring holes and filling them with reinforced concrete. Piles support the structure through two main mechanisms. These include end-bearing (resting directly on solid rock or gravel) and skin friction (using the grip of the soil along the sides of the pile). This ensures stability even on sites with "made ground" or soft clay.
